Castello del Terriccio is situated in a very special territory. In 1830, it was described by the historian Lapo de' Ricci as the "borderland of Maremma which is gradually abandoning Maremman customs and becoming a vast Tuscan farm".The estate is in the province of Pisa, 30 kilometres from the city itself, not far from the province of Livorno in the very northernmost part of the Tuscan Maremma. Bolgheri is 20 kilometres away; Cecina less than 10.
The estate is "part on the flatlands, part in the hills and part on the mountain just below Castellina Marittima.
The flatlands are covered with deciduous woods of Turkey oak and pedunculate oak, the hill is clad with groves of ilex, also deciduous ... nearer the estate complex, vines are grown and nearer still there are olive trees", in Lapo de' Ricci's words.
Here, as Fernando Pardini observed, you breathe "the same warm, sweet, crisp, relaxing riviera air, between scrubland and shoreline, instantly recognisable to those who have made at least one visit to 'Bolgherìa' and its temples of winemaking". This territory, too, can boast a vocation for top-notch viticulture, as the results achieved amply prove, for the wines are in no way inferior to those of Maremma's celebrated Bolgheri zone.

Arriving from South (Rome, Grosseto, Cecina center) on the SS 1 in direction Livorno
Take the exit called "Cecina Nord/S. Pietro in Palazzi". After the exit turn right and follow the road SR 68 for about 1 km. At the next big crossing continue on the SR 206 turning right for about 3,5 km. On the right side you pass a Shell distributor, you pass the restaurant "Il Doretto", you pass a restaurant/bar "Da Fiore", you pass the sign for the restaurant "Il Baroccio", you cross the semi highway on a little bride. After another 500 meters comes a crossing indicating "Vada" on the left. You continue straight on the SR 206 and 100 meters further on your right you can see an advertisement for a CAMPING. 10 meters further on the right is the entrance of TERRICCIO, two red brick walls. Here starts the white road which you have to take. After 200 meters you find the road closed by a barrier which opens pushing the button on your left side. Continue for 3,4 km until you reach the little village with cellar and headquarters at the number 15/16 (going up the hill on the right side a little terrace with two red terracotta vases).
